How Fixer is addressing COVID-19 concerns

Last week, we posted our initial thoughts on how the Fixer team would be addressing COVID-19 as we continue to provide service in Chicago. This is an update to that post, as Governor Pritzker has executed a Stay at Home Order for the State of Illinois.

Fixer is open for business, and ready to help.

Fixer and others in our field have been deemed an essential service, called upon to maintain the homes where Chicago is sheltering in place. With people spending more time at home than ever, we’re ready to help keep your life (and pipes and circuits) flowing.

In the past week we have provided additional training for Fixers, and updated our processes to practice social distancing. Here is what is now happening on our end:

  • Fixers are now “stationed” at their own homes between jobs instead of our usual office, and our office team is working remotely.

  • Jobs that require more than two Fixers in a single space have been postponed.

  • Upon arrival, Fixers will be washing their hands for 20+ seconds with soap at the beginning and end of every customer visit, as well as using hand sanitizer to eliminate germs.

  • Fixers will also be disinfecting any surfaces they interact with, both at the beginning and end of the job.

  • As has always been the case with our Fixer team, safety is our first priority. Any Fixer who feels unsafe is empowered and encouraged to leave a job site.

As we mentioned last week, we provide health insurance and paid sick time to all of our team members, and we’ve extended our paid sick time allowance given the crisis in which we find ourselves.

We hope our city remains as healthy as can be, and that we can provide some comfort for you in the process. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to us at concierge@fixer.com.

Original post from 3/13/2020:

There is nothing more important to us than the health and safety of our customers and our Fixer team members.  We are closely monitoring the situation and have taken steps to do our part in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

This week, the entire Fixer team participated in training specifically related to COVID-19 safety.  You will see the results of that training at your next appointment:

  • Fixers will be washing their hands for 20 seconds with soap at the beginning and end of every customer visit, as well as using antibacterial gel to eliminate germs.

  • Fixers will also be wiping down any home surfaces with disinfectant that we have touched during the course of a visit as an extra precaution.

At Fixer, we provide both health insurance and paid sick time to all of our team members. We’ve extended our sick time allowance for all employees to accomodate any potential personal or family needs, should they require self-quarantine or time for recovery per CDC guidelines.

We also ask that if you find yourself either in contact with someone with the virus or having symptoms yourself, to postpone any upcoming Fixer appointments until you are healthy again. Our Concierge team is at the ready 7 days a week to assist you with rescheduling.

Lastly, if you have questions or concerns about the spread of COVID-19, you can find more information on the CDC’s website, the City of Chicago’s Public Health website, or the Illinois Department of Health’s website.

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to us at  concierge@fixer.com. Stay healthy and safe this season.

We hope to fix for you real soon.
